Brining a new generation PV Modules towards production

FAST TRACK focuses at bringing the next-generation technology to the market, using newly developed state-of-the art knowledge to solve the complex puzzle of achieving at the same time strong light in-coupling (high current) and good electrical properties (open-circuit voltage and fill factor).

FAST TRACK focuses on photovoltaic systems (PV). Technically PV could play a decisive role in the future of EU, both for electricity and energy generation, as well as for clean-tech job creation.

The long term success for PV will be linked to two factors:

  • Cost reduction (down to below 0.5 €/Wp at system level, ensuring electricity prices well below 0.08 €/kWh in sun-rich areas), and reliability increase,

  • Improved lifecycle of PV systems (down to energy pay-back times below 0.5 – 0.7 year in southern parts of Europe).

Besides, achieving wide-scale penetration of PV will be linked to topics such as storage (chemical and/or distributed or centralized), smart grids, demand-side management, and even long-distance transportation of electricity.
